Winter Flower Inspiration

If a bride is having a hard time thinking of flower combinations for a winter wedding then there are various ways of bringing flowers together to give a feel of winter. First of all you can use rich reds, burgundy amaryllis, with blood red roses, with lots of ivy, and the black berries from the ivy. This gives a lovely rich warm feel. Next you have the frosty Christmassy feel, using large white roses, white hydrangea, and lizianthus, give it all a dusting of glitter and add some sparkly twigs to give impact, and suddenly you have the Christmas wow factor!  

Due to the amazing “dutch” growers, there are a vast amount of flowers around at this time of year. Roses, orchids, lizianthus and beautiful amaryllis in a vast array of colours are available for winter weddings. Spring flowers always become available at the end of the year, and so from October you have hyacinths, ranunculus, tulips and anemones to also choose from. As spring flowers are also available, why not theme your wedding around these. Popular choices include anemones, tulips, pussy willow, hyacinths and  these can be used in a pale colour scheme, maybe all in white, or if you wanted to bring some colour indoors when it is grey and cold outside then all the spring flowers come in a variety of colours. Hot pink anemones, blue hyacinths and orange tulips!

At William Clarke our favourite winter flowers have to be paper white narcissi, white hyacinths, and white anemones with the black centre. The smell from some of these flowers are amazing. I love to see a mirror cube full of white hyacinths, or anemones.
